The Muñiz family has owned the Agropecuária Muñiz farm since 1965, with Adriano taking it on from his father before him. He set to work elevating the quality of their coffees, and has earned a reputation as a pioneer in the speciality coffee markets. He recently placed fourth in the well-respected Especialíssimo Award, highlighting the best of Brazil’s coffee production. Adriano has a specific plot on his farm for new and experimental coffee varietals, where he can identify trees that thrive in the specific microclimate, along with enabling exploratory processing methods on a smaller scale. He first delved into fermentation processes in 2019, and has subsequently become a leader in this field, mastering honey processes as well as fermentations involving yeast, carbonic and semi-carbonic maceration.
Agropecuária Muñiz occupies 109 hectares, 37% of which is dedicated to nature preserves housing 21 water springs and 7000 metres of ecological corridors. In 2022 solar panels were installed, not only achieving self-sufficient clean energy but also supplementing the city’s power supplies. The family also provide monthly donations to local schools.
Seasonal buying is about seeing coffee as a crop not a commodity, buying in harmony with the growing seasons to enjoy coffee at its best. This kind of buying has always been the backbone of our business and it’s something we’ve improved and refined every year.
