High in the mountains of Baependi, in the renowned Mantiqueira de Minas region, lies Fazenda Trapiá. After retiring from city life in Rio de Janeiro, Andrea de Souza Rangel and Renato Pita de Moura purchased the farm in 2005 to fulfil a lifelong dream of working with the land. With no prior experience in coffee cultivation, they immersed themselves in learning every aspect of farming, from planting to processing.

What began as a new adventure has since become a model of sustainable coffee farming, and today Fazenda Trapiá covers 440 hectares, with 70 hectares dedicated to coffee and more than 30% preserved as native forest. The farm is home to natural springs, waterfalls, and around 40,000 Candeia trees, which are carefully managed and replanted each year. Fazenda Trapia is a shining example of combining passion and purpose; through their sustainable practices, the pair are achieving award-winning quality. Three families live and work on the farm, hand-harvesting cherries from the steepest slopes and using small machines on gentler terrain to ensure each lot is picked at peak ripeness. This Yellow Bourbon was separated for density on the same day as harvest, then taken directly to be slowly dried on patios in the sun. Here, it was turned by hand to ensure even drying to develop a balanced, elegant profile.
