AA Iyego AA Iyego

Established in 1966, Marimira was the fourth washing station built by the Iyego Farmers’ Cooperative Society. Situated at 1500-1700 masl on the slopes of the Aberdare Range, the station sits in a biodiverse environment surrounded by indigenous forest, and home to antelope, jackals, and a variety of native bird species. Around 600 smallholder farmers contribute to Marimira’s total production, cultivating primarily SL28 and SL34 varietals, along with Batian and Ruiru 11 - varieties known for both resilience and cup quality. Grown in fertile red volcanic soils and nourished by consistent rainfall and mild temperatures, the cherries develop slowly and evenly, contributing to the coffee's vibrancy and complexity.

This coffee was processed using the fully washed method, utilising fresh water sourced from the nearby River Mukungai. Waste water is managed using soak pits to minimise environmental impact. Post harvesting by hand, the coffee is pulped and fermented to remove the mucilage. The parchment is washed and hand-sorted, then dried on raised beds under the sun.
