Known for its fertile soils and high altitudes, the Yirgacheffe region is an ideal growing climate and consistently delivers outstanding coffees. This coffee has been produced by Getaneh Endale Mengesha on his 3.9 hectare farm at 2019 MASL. He has been growing coffee here since 2011 and is passionate about his craft, focussing on improving quality and productivity, and dreams of opening a lodge on his farm for tourists and buyers.

In 2019, the Ethiopian government began granting export licenses to coffee farmers with over 2 hectares of land, cutting out the need for external exporters, therefore increasing control and profit for the farmer. Despite this, many are missing out on this opportunity due to lack of support with the complicated logistics, costs and associated paperwork required for exporting. In 2024, our import partners Nordic Approach launched a new single-farmer project in Yirgacheffe to enable these farmers to act as exporters. The goal is to create a sustainable market for their coffee, achieving higher premiums and offer complete transparency within the supply chain. The project is still in the early stages, but the intention is to return to the same farmers year on year, and to make the programme scalable.
