Edison Ferreira Carson’s farm Sitio Gourita occupies 60 hectares and sits at 1100 metres above sea level. With 4 decades of experience in the coffee industry, Edison began his career by planting 3000 coffee trees on his family land in 1986. Over the years the farm has flourished and in 2018 he made the transformative decision to shift his focus from volume to quality. This turning point was revelatory, increasing not only the standards of his coffee to speciality levels, but also the sustainability of his operations.
Edison manages his farm alongside his wife Kerli, who focuses on post-harvest processing. Their children Edison Junior and Maria Eduarda are increasingly involved in this family business - Edison Junior is studying agronomy, and hopes to continue his father’s legacy of openness and innovation. Sustainability and adaptability are at the heart of Sitio Gourita, and this coffee is a testament to the family's work.
Seasonal buying is about seeing coffee as a crop not a commodity, buying in harmony with the growing seasons to enjoy coffee at its best. This kind of buying has always been the backbone of our business and it’s something we’ve improved and refined every year.
