The Nola Wonga farmers group was founded in 2014 by Felix Soba in Wolowio village, near Bajawa on the Indonesian island of Flores. The group was created to protect the region’s renowned Arabica coffee, at a time when many farmers were replacing coffee trees with short-term vegetable crops, threatening the region’s coffee heritage and long-term sustainability. Felix supports producers through seedling distribution, financial support, and knowledge sharing, helping farmers grow coffee alongside other crops rather than abandoning it altogether. As a result of his work, farmers have seen stronger livelihoods, improved biodiversity, and a growing recognition and demand for Flores coffees.

This coffee was grown between 1300-1600 masl and is primarily of the S795 variety, a cultivar known for its balance and cup quality in Southeast Asian conditions. Ripe cherries are handpicked, then floated to remove underripe fruit and pulped all within 24 hours of harvest. They are then fermented in concrete tanks, thoroughly washed, and patio dried for 7-10 days. After drying, the coffee is hulled, sized, and sorted at the dry mill before passing through an optical sorter to ensure consistency and quality.
