The Round Hill Box The Round Hill Box

Every month we will bring you two brand new, truly exceptional coffees. Bringing together bright and vibrant coffees from producers that we work closely with, always in line with the changing seasons. This box is an opportunity for us to share our most exciting micro-lots, never repeating a coffee within a calendar year. We roast and ship these coffees at the beginning of each month so all new orders placed will be not be shipped immediately.

Box 014 will ship on the 01st of March 2024. This month we’ve picked two coffees that couldn’t be further from each other, one a Brazilian extended fermentation natural, that defies the typical expectations of what a Brazilian coffee can taste like the other, a washed Rwandan from Mahembe.

  • Mahembe

We’ve been buying coffee from Mahembe for longer than anywhere else, almost 9 years. Mahembe was founded in 2010 by Justin Musabyimana, Justin has a 10-hectare farm of his own, as well as two wet mills, one called Nyagatareand one called Nyarubuye. Both of the mills buy cherry surrounding farmers who grow red bourbon exclusively. Farms in Rwanda are generally very small almost garden farms, around 0.25-1 hectare in size (although there are some bigger farms) between the two washing stations Mahembe buys cherry from nearly a thousand of these farms!

  • Sitio Sao Pedro #1

This coffee was produced by Lourdes de Fatima de Souza, on her farm, Sitio São Pedro in the Brazilian region of Mantiqueira, Minas Gerais. We’ve been buying her coffees for a few years and her extended fermentation lots in particular are always stunning. Her son Thiago is the driving force behind these more innovative processing methods and we’re excited to try more and more coffees from him in the future, thus far they get better every year!

Seasonal buying is about seeing coffee as a crop not a commodity, buying in harmony with the growing seasons to enjoy coffee at its best. This kind of buying has always been the backbone of our business and it’s something we’ve improved and refined every year.
